EDF put its money on SQLI to optimise the trade processes in its hydro-electric power stations

Renovation of trade processes and the IT system related to operation hydro-electric power stations in order to increase their availability and performances.

Objectives: renovate operational condition maintenance practices and the IT systems in hydro-eclectic power stations

With the deregulation of the market for electricity, EDF wanted to optimise its production tools in order to increase its captivity. Consequently, EDF launched a vast project of renovation of its processes and IT systems for managing the maintenance of its facilities (about 450 hydro-electric power stations in France).

Our assistance: trade process modelling

Presentation of the I-Process method for modelling business processes
Complete audit and diagnostic of 4 hydro-electric power stations, mapping existing trade processes
Development of an improvement method that can be applied to every hydro-electric power station and declining this method into 'produce', 'operate' and 'maintain' sections.
Process mapping and improvement proposals with working parties of 10 to 20 people representing all the trades involved in hydro-electric power stations.
Assistance to the project owner in implementing new trade practices

Results:

The audit allowed areas of improvement to be defined for the trade processes linked to production, operation and maintenance that took account of organisational aspects, business issues, equipment criticity and the effect of applying IT tools.
Defining the trade processes allowed the trades to be reorganised and the IT system to be adapted to the new issues, thereby optimising availability of the facilities and increasing their performances.
